A few days ago, we saw that Mercedes launched the eqc in India. It’s Mercedes’s first electric car and Mercedes has put all of its efforts into it. Now the one thing we Indians and the world noticed was that for the first time, Mercedes launched probably one of their most impactful cars in India and not in their own country or in a big country like the USA.
So, seeing the same thing, another german manufacturer Audi launched their electric car the Audi e Tron in India, it’s not the same thing as Mercedes but they have launched and priced it in a way that the market knows it has been directed towards the eqc.
Now the e tron as said by Audi is an SUV but it is not, let’s be very honest, it’s got the same silhouette as the EQC and the ground clearance is not high enough to even tackle normal speed breakers on the Indian roads.
From the design perspective, it’s the same as the Audi q series. You can spot the difference between the grille the charging port. It doesn’t look bad but it doesn’t stand out as well, it really looks just another electric car on the road.
Also, the e Tron happens to be Audi's first mass-production electric car, its first delivery happened just about 2 years ago.
Now, when it comes to an electric car doesn’t matter if it’s a relatively affordable Nissan leaf or a car like a tesla model s plaid, the customer’s concern is the same, “what’s the range?” Is it low? And if it is low, then what is the charging time.
But the range of the e-Tron won’t disappoint you, in just a single charge it can do up to 328 km and in the updated mode, the range has increased significantly to 357 kilometers which is great for city usage as well as highways and it’s definitely more than what an average person is used to travel in a day. The Sportback version which came out in 2020 has a range of 351 km, which is good.
To extend the range, the E tron has also regenerative system like most the electric car nowadays, and that will extend the range of your e tron by 30 percent, so with the regenerative mode, the e tron can do 450 Kms which we can all agree is more than enough for a single charge.
Talking about the charging time, if you charge the e Tron with a supercharger, in under 30 minutes you can see the battery level go from 0 to 80 percent easily, but it varies with the rest of the chargers available in different countries.
The e tron has got dual motors and it has got audi’s classic Quattro, it’s powered by a 95-kWh battery, but not all of it is usable. So being an electric car, it’s clear that the e tron will be quick.
In the boost mode, the e tron has 402 hp going to the wheels and 664 nm of torque, Horsepower is all good, but it’s that torque number that has got my eyes stuck.
Also, due to it being all slick and dynamic in design, the drag coefficient is pretty low, and when you integrate it with the virtual side mirrors, you get a drag coefficient of 0.27 lower than that of the Bugatti Veyron.
Since the torque number is high and horsepower is pretty sick, the acceleration will be quick and it is, it takes the e tron does 5.7 seconds to reach 100 kmph from 0, but that is the acceleration in boost mode, in the normal mode, the horsepower and torque numbers go down a little, then it takes 6.6 seconds to do 0 to 100kmph, not too bad, not too good.
Being an SUV, the first thing a customer will look for the e tron is practicality, the e tron has got 660 liters of boot space in the back and 60 liters in the front for a total of 720 liters. By suv standards that’s good.
In the next post, we will be comparing the EQC and the E tron to tell which one is the better ev to buy.
So, everyone, that will be all for this time, I trust you liked this one, if you did then do share it with your friends and do consider subscribing to Motordrift for more such content in the future.
Till then
