HYUNDAI'S E-GMP PLATFORM: START OF A NEW ELECTRIC REVOLUTION?

Remember last time, we talked about the Hyundai ioniq and how Hyundai is planning to take over the market with its EVs? Well, now we are going to get deep into the technology that will form the base of these cars.

So, this platform which is going to be the foundation of these electric cars is called the E-GMP Platform (Electric Global modular Platform), it will power all the Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis models that are going to be electric. The great thing about this platform is that each car that is going to come with it will offer at least 310 miles of range which is more than enough for a week of daily city commutes.

By 2025, which is just a few years away, Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis together plan to launch about 23 electric vehicles, quite an ambitious number. But with the rate these brands are growing, I will not be surprised if they do launch 23 models.

The way I think they are going to make it possible is by launching 1 or 2 variants of the same model, like a fastback or a Sportback, either way, the technology will be the same, the only difference will be in the exterior design.

Now the first model on which we are going to see this will be the Ioniq 5 crossovers, which as far as I know, will be unveiled next year, so next year onwards, you all, just sit tight and watch Hyundai, Kia, and genesis launching models after models.

Regarding the crossover thing, I want Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis to come out with something that’s not so common. Crossover design has become the most common design in recent years. Initially, I thought it to be just a trend in the Indian market, but no, it’s happening all over the world, these pseudo SUVs are getting launched and taking over the market.

SUVs with the traditional Boxy shape are becoming a rare sight these days in the market. Sad right? Well, I have hopes from genesis in making a good SUV.

Talking about the current cars that are using the E-GMP technology, it’s only being used by Porsche in the Taycan, Yes! Not even the top dog, tesla is using this technology in their cars yet because the price increase that it will be bringing with it would disrupt the perfect market that Tesla has created for itself.

Thankfully, this technology is only going to become more common as Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis start launching their models.

Now, you might be thinking that how do these batteries give more range? Well, they have more juice in them cause they are 10 percent denser than the batteries that are currently on sale.

Another thing that the E-GMP has improved is efficiency, they are going to give more power in a small space. So, they being smaller in size also means that the cars are going to have more interior space.

And since the battery has improved, it also means that there will be an increase in the performance numbers as well.

So, yeah, things seem to be pretty exciting for the future and the E-GMP platform is going to act as a major boost to the electric revolution around the world, which is still in its early stages. But if the rate of innovation doesn’t stop, then electric cars will eventually take over.

So, everyone, that will be all for this time, I trust you liked this one, if you did then do share it with your friends and do consider subscribing to Motordrift for more such content in the future.

Till then

Ciao
