THE 3 BIG AMERICAN SUVS ARE BACK!

I am sure you would have heard about the Big 3 American Luxury SUV makers, just like the 3 motoring giants from Detroit had an impact and power upon the world, these SUVs have the same power and command.

Starting with the most expensive of the lot, the Cadillac Escalade, yeah, it’s the very SUV that makes you say “Well, that escalated quickly”. It’s one of those SUVs that’s really popular among powerful people just because of its huge proportions, it has quite a huge fanbase around the world and we happen to have a few in India too.

Now recently, Cadillac launched the updated version of the Escalade, and fans including me were really excited to see what Cadillac could do better in an SUV like the Escalade and as always there was a little fear in the mind of Cadillac that ruin the Escalade and thankfully, they didn’t, it has got updates all around.

Starting with the Engine, it has got a 6.2 liter naturally aspirated murican V8 coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission, this is good because it will ensure fast upshifts and downshifts. The engine is developing 420 Bhp power and 621 nm of torque, these aren’t crazy but are good numbers for an SUV of these proportions, and thanks to these proportions the escalade now weighs almost 2.6 tonnes. It’s going to start at about 76,000 $ base which seems pretty good considering the luxuries and the car as an overall package.

Next up we have the Jeep Grand Wagoneer, now unlike the Escalade, the Wagoneer isn’t as famous or has a fanbase as huge as the escalade, but it might be the very best of these 3 SUV’s.

Starting with the engine, it has a 6.4 liter naturally aspirated V8 engine that’s been coupled with 8-speed automatic transmission, again the shifts are going to be smooth af! Which is really what you desire in an SUV like this. The power that the engine is giving is 471 Bhp and it has 617 Nm of torque, the numbers are good and when you consider the weight of the Grand Wagoneer which is over 2.7 tonnes, it seems to be a pretty good SUV. The standard Wagoneer is going to start from 68,000 $ base and the Grand Wagoneer is going to start from 87,000 $ base which is reasonable for a Suv that promises to be the best out of the lot.

At last, we have the Lincoln Navigator which in its previous generation was considered a much better car than the escalade and Lincoln plans on doing the same this time but this time Cadillac has come fully prepared.

Starting from the engine, the Navigator, unlike its competitors, doesn’t has a big old murican V8 instead it has a 3.5 liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine. What I am guessing is that Lincoln is taking the same approach as Ford when it comes to engines. Ford has been pushing its V6 engine quite a lot from the past few years and Lincoln seems to be working on its own version of a v6 engine and that sounds good from a future perspective but to be honest I really wish that the navigator had a big V8 engine just like it’s other 2 brothers. The navigator like the Escalade has a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The engine might not be as big as the other 2 but it sure packs some serious potential, it’s developing 450 Bhp and 692 Nm of torque, so the Navigator has a significant torque advantage over the other two. The Navigator weighs the same as the escalade and surprisingly it also starts at the same price point as the escalade.

Damn, this time these two are competing really closely with each other. It would be interesting to see who is gonna win the market, I am going with the escalade and it’s because of that Naturally aspirated V8 engine.

I trust we will get to see some of these in India because we know the fascination Indians have with SUV’s.

We will talk in detail about each of these mammoths someday later but that’s for this time. I trust you liked this, if you did then do share it with your friends, and do consider subscribing to Motordrift for more such content in the future!

Till then

Ciao
